Booking choice: The Manama city tour with a boat ride, ★ 4.8 (194). Check dates Compare the options below
Search for a Manama city tour and you will find a dozen listings with similar photos and very different days. Some keep to the capital, some cross the whole island, and the names do not always help: several tours called city tours drive 40 km into the desert, and the best-known tour called city and desert barely leaves the city.
This guide puts the main tours side by side, explains how to tell a good operator from an average one, and answers the question behind every booking: is a tour better value than doing it yourself? For how a tour fits into your trip, see Bahrain in one day and how many days in Bahrain.
The quick answer
For a first visit with one day, the island tour South to North: Bahrain in a Day (4.9 from 169 reviews, six hours) shows you the most. For the city with museum time and less driving, the Manama City Tour with Boat Ride (4.8 from 194, five hours) is the most booked; its desert is a camel farm stop. For the city only, the Manama Downtown City Tour (4.6 from 11) spends about 30 minutes inside the Grand Mosque. For your own car, guide and lunch, the Private Manama Tour (5.0 from 6) costs more than the shared tours. Book for a Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday, when the mosque and the museums are all open, and look for a full refund if you cancel up to 24 hours ahead: every tour here has one.
Can I take a city tour in Bahrain?
Yes. Guided tours run as half-day and full-day trips, shared or private, most with hotel pickup in Manama, and the walks start on foot at Bab Al Bahrain. The table shows what each one really covers.
Ratings and review counts are GetYourGuide figures from September 2026. The stops come from the listings themselves; operators change the order with traffic, prayer times and the day of the week.

Check dates for the Manama city tour with a boat rideWhat does a 'city and desert' tour really include?
On the most booked tour, the desert is a camel farm stop of about 30 minutes at Zallaq, when the farm is open to visitors. The rest of the five hours is spent in the city, in Muharraq and on a short boat ride.
The GetYourGuide title of the most booked tour is Bahrain City and Desert Tour with Transfers, and it is one of the best-rated tours in Manama (4.8 from 194 reviews). Its itinerary is honest if you read it closely: Bab Al Bahrain, Bahrain Fort, the National Museum and the Grand Mosque for about 45 minutes each, a camel farm at Zallaq for 30 minutes, a drive through Muharraq and a short boat ride with views of the Manama skyline. One reviewer put it plainly: "The tour does not take you to the desert; it's a camel farm." Most reviewers still loved the day, the boat ride and the air-conditioned car.
Camel farms are not always open to visitors, so treat that stop as a bonus. If the south is what you want, the Bahrain Half-Day Desert Tour (4.9 from 20) spends four hours there with six guests at most: the camel farm at Zallaq (with no camel ride), the First Oil Well, a photo stop at the circuit, a pottery workshop and the burial mounds in A'ali, and the Tree of Life. Reviewers praise its guide Maher, who is a good photographer too.

The south only, with six guests at most: the Tree of Life, the first oil well, the A'ali burial mounds and a pottery workshop in four hours.
Check dates for the half-day desert tourShould you book a city-only tour or an island tour?
Book an island tour for a first visit with one day and a wish to see everything; book a city-only tour if the mosque, the museum and the souq matter most. The city sights are within 5 km of each other, the southern ones 30 to 40 km away.
An island tour spends at least an hour and a half of its day on the road, because each leg to the south takes 35 to 45 minutes. In exchange you see the Tree of Life, the First Oil Well and the Bahrain International Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix in normal years, where tours usually stop for photos at the gate. South to North: Bahrain in a Day is the best-reviewed island tour, with its guide Hisham praised again and again; Bahrain in a Day: City to Desert covers a similar loop in four hours by keeping the city stops short.
A city-only tour gives that time to the sights themselves. The Manama Downtown City Tour includes about 30 minutes inside the Grand Mosque, the National Museum, a traditional sweet in Muharraq, the fort and the souq, and no desert drive. Its rating is a little lower, from fewer reviews, but it is the one to choose if the museum and the old town are why you came.

Five hours in the city with transport and entrance fees included: about 30 minutes inside the Grand Mosque, the National Museum, a Bahraini sweet in Muharraq, the World Trade Center, the fort and the souq, with no desert drive.

There is no single best one. Choose a licensed operator with a high rating from many recent reviews, an itinerary that respects the closing days, and a full refund if you cancel up to 24 hours ahead.
- A named, licensed guide: Bahrain's tourism authority licenses guides, and good operators tell you who will guide you. Reviewers name the guides on the best tours: Hisham on the island tour, Fadhel and Salman on the four-hour tour, Maher on the desert tour, Husain on the private tour.
- Many recent reviews: a 4.9 from 169 reviews tells you more than a 5.0 from 2. New tours can be excellent, but give their ratings less weight.
- An honest itinerary: the listing should say what happens on a Friday, when the Grand Mosque is closed to visitors, and on a Tuesday, when the National Museum is closed. The island tour and the private tour both say so openly.
- Clear inclusions: the pickup area, entrance fees, water and meals, and any extras, such as pickup outside Manama.
- Flexible terms: every tour in this guide refunds in full if you cancel up to 24 hours ahead.

Is a private tour worth it over a shared one?
For a couple, a family or a small group, often yes: you set the pace, change stops and ask as many questions as you like. The private tour costs more than the shared ones, but it includes lunch and entrance fees.
The Private Manama Tour with Lunch (5.0 from 6 reviews) takes five hours in a private air-conditioned car with a Bahraini English-speaking guide: the Grand Mosque (a photo stop only on Fridays), the National Museum (swapped for the Bahrain Fort site museum on Tuesdays), a photo stop at the World Trade Center and Bahrain Bay, Bahrain Fort and lunch. A reviewer wrote that the guide Husain knew the museum inside out. Entrance fees, Wi-Fi and water are included.
Shared tours are small too: the desert tour takes six guests at most, and several city tours travel by car or van. The full-day highlights tour is the exception, a coach day of seven hours with a guided mosque visit, snacks and water, and drop-off anywhere in Manama. It is not recommended for wheelchair users, and neither is the most booked city tour.

Check dates for the private Manama tour with lunchIs it really cheaper to use a travel agent?
For flights and hotels, usually not. For sightseeing it depends: in the city a few taxi rides cost less than a tour, but for the spread-out south a shared tour often works out cheaper than several long taxi rides, and it adds a guide.
Think in legs. The city stops are 5 to 15 minutes apart, so a morning of short taxi, Careem or Uber rides stays modest, and the Grand Mosque visit is guided anyway, with no ticket needed. The south is different: the Tree of Life is about 40 km from the souq, the sights there are hard to reach without a car, and a taxi would need to wait for you or come back. A shared tour splits that cost across the group and includes pickup, water and a guide. Hiring a car is the other option for the south if you are happy to drive.
For the trip as a whole, Bahrain is generally cheaper than Dubai or Doha for hotels and eating out, and many of its sights, from the souq to the fort grounds and the Tree of Life, need no ticket.

Seven hours with an English-speaking Bahraini guide: a guided visit inside the Grand Mosque, the souq, Bahrain Fort, the south and the A'ali burial mounds, with snacks and water and drop-off anywhere in Manama. Women are lent an abaya and headscarf for the mosque.
Explore the full-day highlights tourWould a walking tour suit you better?
If you are staying near the souq, or care most about food and the old town, yes. Walks start at Bab Al Bahrain, need no pickup and spend all their time in the lanes that day tours pass through in half an hour.
The Manama Souq Food Walk (4.9 from 55 reviews) is three hours on foot with a local foodie guide, with all tastings, water and soft drinks included; one reviewer called her guide engaging, attentive and clearly passionate about Bahraini culture and cuisine. It is not suitable for food allergies or gluten or lactose intolerance. The Manama Evening Souq Walk (5.0 from 5) starts at 5 pm and covers the souq, the Gold Souq and Little India in about three hours. The dishes to look for are in what to eat in Bahrain.

What should you ask before you book a Manama tour?
Ask what happens at the Grand Mosque on your date, whether the camel farm is open, where pickup is and whether it costs extra, and which meals are included. A good operator answers before you pay.
- Which day is it? On a Friday the mosque is a photo stop from outside; on a Tuesday the National Museum is closed; on a Monday the fort's site museum is closed.
- Is the camel farm open? If it matters to you, ask the day before.
- Where is pickup? The desert tour charges extra for pickup from Amwaj, Diyar Al Muharraq and outside Manama; most others collect you in Manama.
- What about meals? Of the day tours, the private tour and the Pearling Path tour include lunch; the full-day tour offers an optional dinner at extra cost.
- Is it accessible? The most booked tour and the full-day tour are not recommended for wheelchair users.
- How long at each stop? Island tours give the souq a short stop; keep an hour afterwards to explore on your own.

Which is the best tour company in Bahrain?
No single company is best for everyone. Compare recent reviews, the named guide, what happens on Fridays and Tuesdays, and the refund terms. On GetYourGuide, the island tour South to North: Bahrain in a Day has the strongest record, 4.9 from 169 reviews.
How long is a Manama city tour?
City-only tours take four to five hours. Island tours with the Tree of Life and the first oil well take six to seven hours, and the walking tours about three.
Do Manama city tours go inside the Grand Mosque?
Most do from Saturday to Thursday, between 9 am and 4 pm. On Fridays the mosque is closed to visitors, so tours stop outside for photos or change the stop. The four-hour Bahrain in a Day tour only stops outside for photos.
Are entrance fees included in Manama tours?
On most of them, yes: the most booked tour, the downtown tour and the private tour all include entrance fees. The mosque visit and the fort grounds need no ticket anyway; the museums do.
